"To Tree or Not to Tree"

with Rabbi Malka Packer-Monroe (she/her)

How are you making decisions as a couple about the December holidays? Do you normally celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah with in-laws who are now not in your bubble? Is your home a blend of holidays or do you take a separate but equal approach? How can we make sure everyone gets what they need this year when the delights of the holidays are needed more than ever but there are overwhelming challenges? Come share what you are doing (or join us if you haven’t decided yet) for the holidays, and hear from other interfaith couples.

We’ll help couples and families lead with your values to create joyous and meaningful holidays, even if they look a little different this year.

18Doors believes our community is enriched by the diversity of its members. We welcome all families, and invite racially diverse and LGBTQ families to participate in our programming.

Rabbi Malka Packer-Monroe is the director of 18Doors, a Jewish non-profit that empowers people in interfaith relationships— individuals, couples, families and their children—to engage in Jewish life and make Jewish choices, and encourages Jewish communities to welcome them.

Couples and Conversation – Parenting Edition: Building a Life Together as an Interfaith* Family

*Intercultural, Dual-faith, Mixed Heritage, Jew-ish . . .

Being part of an interfaith/Jew-ish/multi-faith/however-you-define-yourself couple and raising a family can be challenging, but you don’t need to find the answers alone. This online workshop offers a safe environment to work on creating religious/cultural lives for yourselves and your children. It is intended for couples who are expecting and those with children under the age of six.

“Couples and Conversation” meets Sundays 2/13, 2/27, and 3/6 at 11-12pm and will be facilitated by Rabbi Malka Packer-Monroe, director of 18Doors Atlanta. The workshop is $54/couple and registration is required.

Couples are invited to participate if they are expecting and/or have children under the age of ten, and they are exploring the issue of religion/culture in their family, and:

  • want to explore questions about their family life, including: How can we honor both of our heritages? Can we raise our children in one religion while exposing them to the other one? How will we celebrate holidays and lifecycle events? How can we talk to parents and other relatives about issues related to our interfaith relationship?

  • want to discuss and begin – or continue – to make decisions about their religious/spiritual/cultural life together with support from other couples and a non-judgmental facilitator

  • want guidance from a facilitator who has experience working with interfaith couples and families and helping them to address actual and potential challenges particular to them

  • want to get to know and develop relationships with other interfaith couples who are thinking about similar issues

$56/per couple for the full series
